Digital Transformation Helps Law Firms in Madison Wisconsin

Covid-19 and shut down rules in Dane County caused many law firms in Madison Wisconsin to go to a virtual meeting platform.  Just like schools and many other businesses it became apparent to most lawyers in the area that meeting face to face was no longer a good idea.  Transforming to a online format to meeting was something that had to be done quickly and efficiently.  Although some law firms in Madison WI embraced the change some chose to ignore the need to ad technologies to their websites and law firms meeting process.  That was not the case for a few of the larger law firms and by all accounts in our interviews it appears that the public embraced them.

At the beginning of the lockdown we found that most law firms saw a significant drop in business.  This was for a number of reasons, first and most obvious is people did not feel comfortable going outside their homes.  Secondly due to the fact that everyone was home their was less losses and it is the loss of something that tend to be the largest motivator to hire a lawyer.  For example if you are arrested for a dui you may be losing your license, so you hire a lawyer.  If you are in a car accident, you may of had a loss due to injury or car repairs.  Third, there was a desire to get through something the world had never seen before, so even married couples who may of considered divorce, were putting it on the back burner for now.  Finally, the financial losses of businesses which although was severe, was being supported by the government helping with loans.

Fast forward to 2021 much of this has stayed the same and many things have changed.  Although we are social distancing, many people are no longer staying home.  This has caused increases in car accidents, dui, and other legal things a lawyer is warranted for.  One thing has not changed though, many people still would rather meet their lawyers via online meetings.  The law firms in Madison Wisconsin that have adopted these practices have started seeing a significant uptick in consultations.  As the economy opens up many of the largest Madison law firms are seeing increase in personal injury, business litigation, divorce and drunk driving cases.  The digital transformation has allowed some of the larger law firms to even capture business from outside the City of Madison.  Now that customers can meet with their lawyer without driving, many of the smaller communities outside of Madison are finding it easier to hire the larger firms to assist them moving their cases forward.
